The Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes (LFWMH), is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity organization founded in Bluffton, SC. We are dedicated to providing support to combat wounded and their families living in or who have a connection with the South Carolina Lowcountry or Georgia Coastal Empire. Our Foundation funds qualified charities that provide needed services to post 9/11 combat wounded veterans and their families. Every charitable program that receives our support has been vetted and approved by Birdies for the Brave, a PGA Tour Charities, Inc. affiliate. The majority of our funding goes toward service dog training, scholarships for children of Special Operators killed in combat, financial literacy training for Hero recipients of mortgage-free homes, and other needed services. We are NOT affiliated with the Wounded Warrior Project.
Our Mission
Our mission is two-fold: One, to raise funds in support of programs that target specific needs of the wounded heroes we support — Purple Heart recipients, those with PTSD or traumatic brain injury, and those with other afflictions — who encounter challenges returning to active duty or assimilating back into civilian life. Two, to ensure that the sacrifices of our servicemen and servicewomen are NEVER FORGOTTEN. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have ended but new conflicts continue to take lives and place our service members in harms way. The suffering and effects of combat-related injuries (both physical and emotional) on our service members and their families may last a lifetime. We all owe them our deepest gratitude for fighting for the freedoms we enjoy. Everything we do and how we do it is done to convey that gratitude.
Our History
The LFWMH was formed in 2010 in Hampton Hall, at a golf course community in Bluffton, SC, through a shared appreciation for golf, to lend a hand to Wounded Heroes through the charities we support. Our first golf event was held in May 2011. Since inception, our golf events have expanded to three (3) additional courses in the area and we hope to continue to expand to new sites and beyond the Lowcountry.
Our Team
As an All-Volunteer organization of approximately 200 volunteers (our Board of Directors, our Committee Chairs and the rest of our amazing volunteer team) all donate their time to our fundraising efforts and mission operations. There are no salaries to pay. We are committed to keeping our expenses to a minimum so we can maximize LFWMH's contributions to the charities that make a profound difference in the lives of our Wounded Heroes. We are deeply grateful to all who partner with us – sponsors, donors, and participants - for it is their unwavering support and commitment to what we do, and how we do it, that make LFWMH's continued success possible.
