In honor of our wounded military veterans, S.C. Gov. McMaster has declared May 20th as Wounded Heroes Day in deep appreciation and support for their sacrifice in defense of our nation.
Our mission is to provide funds that directly support wounded military heroes through charitable programs reviewed, approved, and recommended by the Birdies for the Brave. a PGA Tour Charities, Inc. affiliate. These programs are designed specifically for the individual needs of our Wounded Heroes as they assimilate back into the civilian population.
The Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes was established specifically to use golf as the principal mechanism in raising charitable funds for Wounded Military Heroes who have served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We donate all proceeds to charities that are affiliated with the Birdies for the Brave and we target the funds for Wounded Military Heroes living in the South Carolina or Georgia Low Country area or who have some connection with the Lowcountry.
Although we have only been in existence for nine (9) years, we have donated over $1,065,000 to organizations helping our Wounded Heroes.
Our Board of Directors, our Committee Chairs and our approximate 220 volunteers all donate their time to the LFWMH, there is no payroll for any of us. We try to keep our expenses to a minimum so we can maximize our contribution to the Wounded Military Heroes and charities we support while still giving our golf participants a first-class experience for their charitable donations, for the opportunity to play with one of our Wounded Military Heroes, and to thank them personally for his or her service to our country.
The Wounded Military Heroes who are invited to join us are either active duty Purple Heart recipients or combat injured/medically retired servicemen or servicewomen.
